ICSI – The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) is the only recognized professional body in India to develop and regulate the profession of Company Secretaries in India. It is a premier national professional body set up under an act of Parliament, the Company Secretaries Act, 1980. ICSI functions under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India. The Institute provides top-quality education to the students of Company Secretaries (CS) Course and best quality set standards to CS Members. At present, there are more than 65,000 members and about 4,00,000 students on the roll of ICSI. Its headquarters at New Delhi, with four Regional Offices in New Delhi, Chennai, Kolkata, and Mumbai and 69 Chapters across India.

The Company Secretary is:

  • An in-house legal expert; a compliance officer of the Company.
  • An expert in corporate laws, securities laws & capital markets, and corporate governance
  • Chief advisor to the board of directors on best practices in corporate governance
  • Responsible for all regulatory compliances of the company
  • Corporate planner and strategic manager.

CS Executive New Syllabus 2023:

The New Syllabus shall comprise seven papers in Executive Program. The last examination of the CS Executive Program under the old syllabus (2017) shall be held in June 2024. From Dec 2024 all ICSI Executive Program exams shall be held in New Syllabus (2022) only. The Council of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India in the exercise of the powers vested under clause (a) of sub-section (2) of Section 15 of the Company Secretaries Act, 1980 approved the New Syllabus (ICSI Syllabus 2022) for the CS Executive program of the Company Secretaryship Course.

The syllabus for the examination as set out gives the broad framework within which questions may be asked. The questions may not be necessarily restricted to specific wording or a nomenclature of any terms and legislative enactments contained therein. The field of business being in a constant flux, the candidates are expected to be thoroughly conversant with the latest developments in
different areas, amendments to the laws or the corresponding provisions of any statutory modifications or reenactment thereof and judicial pronouncement related and relevant to the stated course content

The Council of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India in the exercise of the powers vested under clause (a) of sub-section
(2) of Section 15 of the Company Secretaries Act, 1980 approved the New Syllabus (ICSI Syllabus 2022) for the CSEET, Executive
and Professional Programmes of the Company Secretaryship Course.

The New Syllabus shall comprise an Online Company Secretary Executive Entrance Test (CSEET) consisting of Four (4) parts, Seven
(7) Papers in the Executive Program and Seven (7) Papers at the Professional Programme including Two Papers as elective papers.
